Color Theory: We Celebrate the New Jet Black iPhone 7 with Fall’s Hottest Color
I was in attendance at the iPhone kickoff in Cupertino on the 7th and then launched coverage of the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus on the TODAY Show. In honor of the new jet black and black iPhone colors, let’s do a little color science fact check on one of fall’s hottest color trends (stay tuned, a giveaway will follow!).
1. What is the darkest material in the world? It’s called Vantablack (which stands for Vertically Aligned NanoTube Array). The company that created it, Surrey Nanosystems, describes it like this: “It reflects so little light that it is often described as the closest thing to a black hole that we will ever see.”
2. Not surprisingly, artists have been drawn to Vantablack, which is so dark it can actually make a 3D object look 2D. Artist Anish Kapoor recently acquired the exclusive rights to use Vantablack in his work.
3. Can you really count how many subpar shades of black have we come across in makeup? From shadows to liners it’s frustrating how few true blacks we have come across in makeup. Let’s face it – blue is blacker than Blacktrack!
Now, you too can create the black look Lexie created just for me with our first “Get the Look” giveaway. We’ve put together our favorite blackest of blacks in a custom kit that is yours to win!

Now, we’re just wondering when it’s gonna be okay to wear this black lipstick on-air?
