Spotlight on the most unique Eco-Friendly Materials – The Weather Channel
As more companies look for eco-friendly ways to create products I had a chance to put the spotlight on three businesses using unique materials.
A pure Americana story -- Jake Star is the founder of Recycled Firefighter. After working 72 hours a week and growing a family, he looked to find a side project. Jake started sewing and created 100% Handmade in the USA upcycled firehose wallets with military specs for the utmost durability. The product line has expanded from wallets to backpacks to duffle bags. To date, they have recycled over 20 TONS of decommissioned hoses since 2015.
This takes organic to the next level!
PooPooPaper makes eco-friendly and very memorable paper products from elephant, cow, and donkey poop. It’s all thanks to the natural fibers being mixed together with seasonal agricultural byproducts from sugar cane to coconut shell fibers and corn husks. The end result is chemical-free, tree-free, and yes, odor-free products from cards to notebooks to paper roses. A portion of the profits supports wildlife projects and the team also started an education park in Thailand to showcase how the process works.
Did you know shoes could be made from flowers? This was the idea behind Generation ZEROGRAND II line from Cole Haan using natural dandelion rubber. And it is more than just flowers that make up the eco-friendly shoe -- the shoe also touts recycled content and felt fabric made from 85% recycled plastic bottles amongst other eco-friendly materials.
