IMPROVE FAST by Watching Yourself Back on Replay!
I’m gonna go ahead and date myself, but I always loved to record the answering machine message in my family. Then again, I guess no one was vying for that pole position. And, for anyone younger that’s when someone called your house phone on a landline and you weren’t home it actually went to a machine where you could leave a message.
The thing is you would record the message, but when you played it back you always were like -- “wait, is that what I sound like??” 😂 It was terrible audio and a poor representation of what you REALLY did sound like. But you did 100 takes and ultimately settled on a winner. What’s my point? When it comes to public speaking -- get use to watching (and hearing!) yourself back. I’m sure for anyone with an ego this might sound like fun –but for anyone else it’s total cringe to listen to yourself, but critical to improve as a keynote speaker or presenter.
Just don’t be too hard on yourself -- I still feel like the emoji covering my eyes watching back -- each one of us is never done improving!
