Katie Linendoll on Weather Channel - Gifts for the Eco-conscious
Today on The Weather Channel “AMHQ” I shared some unique products that make great gifts for the eco-conscious. I’ve placed the segment and products below:
PELA AIRPOD AND SMARTPHONE CASES
Estimates suggest that in 2018 over 1.5 billion smartphones were sold worldwide. With those numbers comes a lot of cases.
I don’t know about you, but I like to change my case several times a year. Pela is the first 100% compostable case with tons of unique designs. So, if you upgrade your phone (heads up – there will likely be a new iPhone release in September!) you can compost your Pela phone case or send it back to them and they will compost it for you! Now, Pela also offers AirPod cases, which provide a great option to keep them secure and clipped onto your keys or backpack. Right now they are also offering a buy one get one so you can swap out.
PELA ETHOS RADIATION REDUCTION INSERT
Many consumers have asked about the amount of radiation emitting from a cell phone. Your smartphone has to be under a certain SAR (specific absorption rate) limit – which is low – but why not do your absolute best to block out any potential radiation?
Pela partnered with a top company in radiation protection to create Ethos: a 0.4mm thick insert to reduce EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) radiation by 80%. The Ethos insert fits between your Pela case and your smartphone and redirects potentially harmful radiation without affecting your signal. And yes, it’s completely compostable and is good for a lifetime (just remember it’s made to specifically fit your cell phone model and Pela case so if you upgrade you will have to swap it out!)

GURU NANDA NATURAL WALL MIST 2.0
The mist 2.0 is an inexpensive gadget great for anyone looking to relax or refresh an area with 100% pure essential oils. Using nebulizing technology, the Mist 2.0 spans up to 100ft either automatically on a timer or manually. I personally like to turn it on, let it pump out a few sprays, and then turn it off.
Just place an essential oil bottle right inside the cartridge and plug the unit into any wall outlet. One tiny 30mL bottle of essential oil can last up to four weeks and no additional measuring or water is necessary. The hardest part is choosing your favorite scent! I personally like the refreshing ‘Orange’ for my kitchen.
No matter what your choice of essential oil, rest assured you will get quality– this brand is obsessed with eco-friendly sourcing. They carefully select each farm and work closely together to ensure that the seeds are non-GMO and the soils are 100% pure, natural, and of the highest quality. Over 138 essential oils are sourced from their natural origins in six continents such as tea tree in Australia, peppermint here in the USA, or lemons in Italy!
ZUM CLEAN LAUNDRY SOAP
Speaking of essential oils, let’s look at that for our laundry.
Most households do about 80 lbs of laundry per week. I was amazed to discover how many toxic chemicals are often contained in basic laundry detergent.
A company called Zum has developed a sea salt laundry product touted not as a laundry detergent, but as a laundry soap. It is plant-based and uses natural ingredients like coconut oil, baking soda, essential oils, and sea salt to naturally clean and disinfect while being completely free of parabens, sulfates, bleach, or ammonia.
It’s highly concentrated and 32oz. can do up to 32 loads! The best part is that my laundry room smells amazing. Think twice about how you wash your clothes and how this might impact your skin and overall health. Zum offers an alternative to decrease exposure to harmful chemicals and to support a healthier environment.
